Who Are the Favorites?

Kyle Busch is tied with Brad Keselowski for most wins at Martinsville in the last 10 races here. Busch won at this track in 2016 and 2017. Busch finished 14th in his last trip here but if you take that race away, he’s finished in the Top 5 in eight consecutive starts here at Martinsville. The defending Cup Series champion is a far ninth in the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series standings and will need to start picking up wins to catch up with the leaders. Busch has led the most laps at Martinsville in the last 10 races.

Brad Keselowski is currently 4th in the standings with 346 points and he is coming off a 9th place finish at last Sunday’s race in Atlanta. Keselowski has won two out of the last four races of the season and he has finished in the Top 9 in all those races. When it comes to Martinsville, Keselowski has won two out of the last six races held at this racetrack. He has seven Top 5 finishes in his last eight appearances here.

Martin Truex won the last race at Martinsville. He’s finished in the Top 10 in his last five starts here including three Top 3 finishes. Truex ranks 4th among active drivers in most laps led at Martinsville in the last 10 races at this racetrack. He is currently fifth in the Drivers standings with 334 points and he has finished in the Top 10 in four out of the last six races of the 2020 season. Truex also finished third last Sunday in Atlanta and that was his best finish of the season after 10 races.

Denny Hamlin last won at Martinsville in 2015 and he is currently sixth in the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series standings with 322 points. Hamlin has finished in the Top 10 in eight out of his last 10 starts at Martinsville and he has finished in the Top 5 in his last three appearances here. Hamlin finished 5th on Sunday and he has four Top 5 finishes in the last six races of the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season.

Chase Elliott is currently third in the standings and he finished 8th in the last race of the season. The 24-year old has finished in the Top 10 in six out of the last eight races of the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season. As far as Martinsville is concerned, Elliott has four Top 10 finishes in his last five starts although he finished 36th in his most recent race there.

Kevin Harvick is the current leader in the Drivers standings with a total of 421 points. The 44-year old driver of the #4 Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing won the last race of the season last Sunday in Atlanta. Harvick has finished inside the Top 5 in five out of the last seven races and has not finished lower than 11th in all those races. Harvick though has not won in Martinsville since 2011 but he has finished in the Top 10 in his last five races there, including three inside the Top 6.

Who Wins?

This will be the first-ever night race at Martinsville and one of the last weeknight races of the year. This race is tough to pick as the last five races here have been won by different drivers. Kyle Busch, Clint Bowyer, Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski, and Martin Trues are those five drivers and we have other favorites who could extend that streak on Wednesday.

Eight out of the last 10 winners at Martinsville have started from a Top-10 starting position but no one has been victorious from the front row since 2013 and only three drivers who started in the front row have won since 2009.

No question, Kyle Busch is the man to beat here. He has only one finish outside the Top 5 in Martinsville since 2015 and he’s gone 1st, 2nd, 2nd, and 3rd here since 2016. He’s also had four Top 4 finishes in six out of the last eight races of the season including 2nd last weekend in Atlanta.

You can’t overlook Keselowski who has 8 consecutive Top 10 finishes at Martinsville which includes seven Top 5 finishes. He’s also won two out of the last four races in 2020 while finishing in the Top 10 in his last five starts. Likewise, Truex has good value here as he won the Fall race at Martinsville and his last five starts here have ended in second, fourth, third, eighth, and first.

Prediction: Kyle Busch is the safe bet here but I won’t blame you if you go with Keselowski or Truex Jr.
