Are you gearing up for the next UFC PPV event? The full card features a lot of interesting matches, including a title fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Yair Rodriguez. In order to help you prepare for the event, I want to share my UFC 290 best bets in this article.
Will Volkanovksi defend his featherweight title once again? Is there an underdog on the main card who can deliver an upset? I want to offer you my analysis, predictions, and several UFC 290 betting picks.
Volkanovski returns to featherweight after losing to Islam Makhachev in the lightweight title fight. Regarded as one of the best featherweights in UFC history, Volkanovski is a proven winner. I also expect him to execute a solid game plan in his match against Rodriguez.
When you compare the two fighters, Volkanovski has a massive advantage. The Australian champion is better at striking and grappling (although he doesn’t possess Rodriguez’s knockout power). Volkanovski’s versatile defensive abilities also give him the upper hand.
Rodriguez has a reach advantage, but Volkanovski is superior with his footwork and agility. The Australian also never makes it easy for his opponents to get him on the ground. His striking skills and defensive maneuvering are why he’s such a deadly opponent.
In his fight against Makhachev, Volkanovski put his abilities on full display. Despite losing the match, Volkanovski demonstrated incredible resilience and durability. He’s also defeated all the top contenders at featherweight, including Max Holloway and Brian Ortega.
Here’s the real question: Does Rodriguez stand a chance against Holloway? I think he’s a solid competitor whom you shouldn’t underestimate. He’s got power, length, and striking accuracy in his game. I expect him to attempt a knockout on Volkanovski in this match.
I’ll be honest – this one was a no-brainer. Volkanovski is a well-rounded fighter with four title defenses in his UFC career. I’m picking the Australian champion to win against Rodriguez with one of my best bets for UFC 290.
Here’s an upset that I believe will go down at UFC 290. Brandon Moreno will try to defend his flyweight title against Alexandre Pantoja. Unfortunately, the current champion hasn’t had the best luck against Pantoja in the past.
These two previously fought each other five years ago, with Pantoja winning via unanimous decision. Fans have also been patiently awaiting the rematch between the two rivals. This will be Pantoja’s first championship match in the UFC.
Let’s first focus on Moreno, who has to defend his flyweight title against someone other than Deiveson Figueiredo. He’s a gritty fighter who often has to battle his way to victory. Overall, Moreno is pretty well-rounded, but he’s known for his durability.
Pantoja isn’t going to make things easy for Moreno. He knows his opponent pretty well, and I expect him to get aggressive from the outset of the match. Similar to Moreno, Pantoja is very developed in terms of his fighting abilities.
Here’s what Pantoja needs to do if he expects to win: Stay on his feet, play defense, and avoid grappling. If Moreno gets him on the ground, it’ll be an uphill battle for the entire match. Pantoja knows how to defend takedowns, which will benefit him immensely against Moreno.
Ultimately, I think Pantoja wins with the right game plan. He’s a tremendously talented striker, and landing enough punches will be the key to victory. I doubt that Pantoja can knock out Moreno, but he can certainly do a lot of damage to the current champion.
Here’s a match that was supposed to take place at UFC 285 but got canceled. Dan Hooker suffered a hand injury that forced him to miss some time. Now that he’s fully healthy again, Hooker will face Jalin Turner at UFC 290 on the main card.
These two fighters have a lot of experience between them. They both combine for 29 fights and 18 victories in the UFC alone. However, Turner has a strong advantage in terms of recent form, having won five of his previous six fights.
Unfortunately, Hooker has to win this one, or his UFC career could be in jeopardy. He hasn’t done much winning as of late, suffering four losses in his last six matches. His most recent fight ended in a second-round knockout victory against Claudio Puelles.
With Hooker, his losses often come against elite competition. In the past few years, he’s faced Michael Chandler, Dustin Poirier, and Islam Makhachev. Hooker is known for his striking and mixing in a wide range of punches and kicks.
Turner was on his way to a title fight until he lost to Mateusz Gamrot. The match was decided via split decision, and the victory could’ve gone either way. Prior to the loss, Turner had won five matches in a row.
I will say that Turner has the advantage over Hooker because he’s not afraid to get aggressive. Hooker can be timid sometimes, especially if he’s taking a lot of damage. Ultimately, Turner wins this one if he continues applying pressure throughout the match.
