Who Are The Favorites?
Aaron Donald led the league with 20.5 sacks last season. The Los Angeles Rams star defensive tackle was also named as the NFL’s 2018 Defensive Player of the Year and he continues to amaze with what he can do on that end of the field. Prior to last season, Donald’s sack per season ranged from 8 to 11 so last year’s numbers were off the charts, really.
Houston Texans defensive end JJ Watt finished behind Donald with 16 sacks last season. The five-time Pro-Bowler played on one of the best defenses in the NFL last season. The Texans allowed just 19.8 points per game, 4th fewest in the league behind the Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans. Watt is only 30 years old and still has plenty of football left in him. However, we’ve seen him deal with injuries in recent years.
Khalil Mack finished the 2018-19 season with a total of 12 sacks. Mack plays in a Chicago Bears defense which is considered the best in the league. Mack recorded 15 sacks during his second NFL season while playing for the Oakland Raiders. That number decreased to 11 in 2016 and further regressed to 10.5 before the trade to Chicago awakened the star defender.
Von Miller ranked 4th in the NFL in sacks last season with 14.5. The 30-year old from Texas A&M had a career-best 18.5 sacks during the 2012 season. DeMarcus Lawrence ranked 17th in total sacks last season with 10.5 The Dallas Cowboys Defensive End had 14.5 sacks during the 2017 season.
Who Will Lead The NFL in Sacks next season?
Aaron Donald had a spectacular 2018 season where he recorded half of his team’s 41 sacks during the entire season. But if you think that may be a fluke, think again. Donald just keeps on getting better and better. Although the Rams are known for their offense under Jared Goff, Donald has made opponents take a second look at their defense.
Donald was spectacular in slipping through double and triple teams while ripping through defenses. Just take a look at the tapes, he’s just amazing. Speaking of tapes, I’ve seen some of his workouts this preseason in his Instagram page and boy, he looks even bigger and stronger than ever. At +240, there’s great betting value on Aaron Donald. I’m picking Aaron Donald to lead the NFL in sacks next season. Khalil Mack would be an excellent second option if you want a much better betting value. But for me, I’m really impressed with Aaron Donald. Prediction: Aaron Donald
