The Breeders Cup Distaff is a G1 thoroughbred race for fillies and mares. It is a weight for age race for three-year-olds and older. It is held annually at different race tracks in the United States or Canada as part of the Breeders Cup World Championships. This year, the Breeders Cup World Championships will be held on November 1 and 2, 2019 and the Distaff is slated for November 2nd.
It is considered as the most prestigious horse race for fillies and mares in North America and the winner of the race often decides the winner of the champion three-year-old or champion older filly or mare. The race is run at a distance of 9 furlongs or 1 ⅛ mile on dirt surface. The prize money for the race is a cool $2,000,000.00
Allen Paulson is the winningest owner with three wins while William I. Mott’s five wins are the most by a trainer. Mike Smith has a record of five wins as a jockey. Only three horses have won the race twice and these were Bayakoa, Royal Delta and Beholder. The latter won in 2013 and 2016.
Last year, it was Monomoy Girl who took victory in this race. This year, she looks to join Bayakoa, Royal Delta and Beholder as two-time winners.

Who Are The Favorites?
Guarana is the horse racing betting favorite to win the race. Guarana three-year-old bay filly owned by the Three Chimneys Farm LLC and trained by Chad Brown. She has won all three of her races this season and is coming off a victory at the Coaching Club American Oaks G-1 at Saratoga. Guarana won the Acorn Stakes in her second start.
Midnight Bisou is a three-year-old dark bay filly owned by Bloom Racing Stable, LLC, Madaket Stables LLC, and Allen Racing LLC and trained Mike E. Smith and trained by Steve Asmussen. She has won five consecutive races including the Apple Blossom HCP and Ogden Phipps, both G1 races.
Monomoy Girl is a four-year-old chestnut filly trained by Brad H. Cox and owned by Michael Dubb, Monomoy Stables, The Elkstone Group, and Bethlehem Stables. This horse was the champion three-year-old filly of 2018. She won the 2018 Breeders Cup Distaff and will be looking to defend her title this year.
Elate is a five-year-old mare owned by Adele Dilschneider-Claiborne Farm and trained by William I. Mott. She has raced four times this year and has won his last two races, taking victory at the Fleur de Lis last June 15, 2019, and the Delaware Handicap last July 13, 2019, both G-2 races.
Dunbar Road is a three-year-old filly owned by Peter Brant and trained by Chad C. Brown. She has won three out of her four races this year and has won the last two, taking victory in the Allow Stakes last May 30, 2019, and winning the G2 Mother Goose Stakes last June 29, 2019.
Bellafina is a three-year-old filly trained by Simon Callaghan and owned by Kaleem Shah. She won the Test G-1 last August 3rd at Saratoga. Bellafina also won the Santa Anita Oaks G1 and was 5th at the Kentucky Oaks G1. Last year, she finished 4th in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies G1 race.

Who Wins?
The Breeders Cup is still in November and that’s three months away. That’s too far out when it comes to horse racing when you still have so many races in between. But when you talk about the horses who are in fine form right now, there is no question that Guarana and Midnight Bisou are the ones to like. Having the better betting value, my way too early pick to win the 2019 Breeders Cup Distaff would have to be Midnight Bisou who is on a roll as of this writing. Prediction: Midnight Bisou
