2019 F1 British Grand Prix Betting Odds and Prediction

Mercedes’ historic run is no more after Max Verstappen took victory at the Red Bull ring last weekend. The win snapped Mercedes’ streak of eight straight race wins to start the 2019 season. It also ended Lewis Hamilton’s streak of four consecutive races won.

Despite that though, Hamilton still owns a commanding 31 point lead over teammate Valtteri Bottas in the Drivers standings. The Briton is also a huge 71 points ahead of Verstappen who now has overtaken Sebastian Vettel for third place in the current standings.

After a one week break, the drivers will head to Silverstone in England for the 2019 British Grand Prix which is the 10th race of the 2019 Formula One season. Despite finishing outside the podium for the first time this year, Lewis Hamilton is the current betting favorite to win the race.

Here are the odds to win the 2019 British Grand Prix. Odds were taken from Bet365 as of 7/5/19:

Driver Odds
Lewis Hamilton -138
Valtteri Bottas +350
Charles Leclerc +500
Sebastian Vette l +600
Max Verstappen +1000
Pierre Gasly +75000
Carlos Sainz +100000
Lando Norris +100000
Kimi Raikkonen +150000
Daniel Ricciardo +200000

Who Are The Favorites?

As with most ( or is it all? ) of the previous races of the season, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton is the  F1 betting favorite to win the 2019 British Grand Prix. Hamilton has been nothing short of dominant this year with six wins in the first eight races of the season and second place finishes in the races he didn’t win.

However, Hamilton finished 5th in the last race of the season in Austria. Not only was it just the first time this season where he finished outside the podium, but it was also his worst finish of the season. But while that takes something from his form, Hamilton’s history in the British Grand Prix is impressive. He is tied for the most wins in the race with 5 and he also won this race four straight times from 2014-2017 and finished second to Sebastian Vettel last season.

Valtteri Bottas is the next man in the odds board and is the driver with the lowest plus money on the list. The 29-year old Finn finished in the Top 5 in four out of his last five British Grand Prix races, including 4th last year. Bottas finished 3rd last weekend in Austria and he has not finished outside the Top 4 in any race this season. The two wins this season puts him next to teammate Hamilton for most races won this year.

Charles Leclerc is coming off the best finish of his Formula One career. The Monegasque finished 2nd behind Max Verstappen in the 2019 Austrian Grand Prix last weekend. Leclerc has now three consecutive podium finishes since retiring at the Monaco Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver has not finished outside the Top 5 in any race this season.

Sebastian Vettel won this race last year so he should’ve been one or two in this odds board. But the German Ferrari ace finished 4th last weekend in Austria and has finished outside the podium in the last two races after he had two runner-up finishes in Monaco and Canada. Vettel has also slipped to 4th in Drivers standings behind Hamilton, Bottas and Verstappen.

Max Verstappen had always been the non-Mercedes and non-Ferrari driver in the Top 5 of the standings. But last weekend, Verstappen won his first race of the season at the 2019 Austrian Grand Prix. The win was only Verstappen’s third podium finish of the year and it put him at #3 in the current Drivers standings behind the two Mercedes Drivers. Although he was 15th in Silverstone last year,  Verstappen had three Top 4 finishes in the race before last year’s debacle.

Who Wins?

Lewis Hamilton is the favorite to win the 2019 British Grand Prix. As we noted in our British Grand Prix Guide, there is a lot of history on the line for the five-time Formula 1 champion. If the Mercedes driver takes pole position in this race, he will separate himself from Ayrton Sienna for most poles in the history of the race with six. If he wins the race as well, he will be the first driver to win it six times. And then we also talked about the 2019 British Grand Prix possibly being the last race at Silverstone. With all these at stake, you know that Hamilton would be the first to put on a show.

If his personal drive won’t be enough, Hamilton will have the backing of the crowd as this is his home race. That said, British drivers have found plenty of success in their home race. A total of 24 British Grand Prix races have been won by Britons. Last year, Sebastian Vettel snapped Hamilton’s string of four wins at Silverstone. But remember that Hamilton did finish second last year and he also set the record for the fastest lap in the course during qualification, while earning his fifth pole position in the race. And yes, after failing to make the podium in Austria, you bet he wants to bounce back big here.

Sebastian Vettel is the defending race champion but the German has not won a race yet this season and hasn’t been in excellent form to challenge Hamilton’s reign at the top. Valtteri Bottas should be among the top five finishers but I don’t see him challenging his teammate in the latter’s home race. Charles Leclerc could spring a surprise but when it comes to betting value, I like Max Verstappen at +1000.

Verstappen finally broke the Ferrari dominance of the 2019 Formula 1 season by winning the 2019 Austrian Open. He finished 15th in the 2018 British Grand Prix but prior to that, Verstappen had the straight Top 4 finished in the British Grand Prix.Prediction: Lewis Hamilton but consider making Max Verstappen as your dark horse pick.
