With the current MLB season heading to the All-Star break, let’s take a look at the picture in the National League and take a look at which teams have the best shot at winning the NL Pennant this year.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are playing like the best team in the majors right now and as such, they are also setting the pace in the National League, where they reside. The Dodgers balance of offense and defense this season has made them an elite team in 2019. With Cody Bellinger leading the offense and Hyun-Jin Ryu leading the pitching staff, the Dodgers are poised to take the pennant this season against a group of rivals.

Who Are The Favorites?
The Los Angeles Dodgers not only have the best record in the National League right now but they also have the #1 record in all of Major League baseball. At 55-27 as of June 26, 2019, Los Angeles has won 67% of its games including 79% of their home games or 34-9 at Dodger Stadium. They are currently seven games ahead of the second-place Atlanta Braves and are the top baseball betting favorites to win the NL.
The Dodgers are 2nd in the NL in batting average at .265, 2nd in home runs with 130 and third in runs and RBIs at 423 and 412, respectively. But not only have the Dodgers excelled in offense, but their pitching staff is also doing their share. The Dodgers lead the National League in ERA at 3.38, quality starts with 95 and strikeouts at 1,565 on the season.
Cody Bellinger leads the NL in batting average and is third in RBIs and home runs to lead the Los Angeles offense. On the other end of the field, Hyun-Jin Ryu leads the NL with 9 wins on the season. Ryu’s 1.27 ERA is also the best in all of Major League baseball. Aside from Ryu, Walker Buehler is 5th in ERA while Dodgers’ closer Kenley Jansen is second in the NL with 23 saves on the season.
The Atlanta Braves had a slow start to their season but a 16-5 start to the month of June has seen them push the National League East. As of June 25th, the Braves are 47-33 and 5.5 games clear of the second-placed Philadelphia Phillies. What has helped Atlanta recover is their ability to win games on the road. The Braves are 23-16 on the road and they have the fewest road losses on the season among National League teams. There are question marks on Atlanta’s rotation but their offense has been able to carry them all season. Atlanta is 2nd in RBIs with 413 and 3rd in batting average at .263 as of June 25th.
The Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers are expected to go toe-to-toe for the National League Central division title. As of June 25th, the Cubs have the edge as their 43-36 record is one-half game better than Milwaukee. The Cubs and Brewers are the 3rd and 4th best home teams in the league, respectively. With these two teams almost even in many statistical categories, the Cubs have the superior run difference at +63 while the Brewers have a negative difference of -6. This is mainly due to Chicago’s 336 runs allowed this season which is the third fewest in the NL after the Reds and Dodgers.
Who Wins?
The Los Angeles Dodgers are clearly the top dog in the National League right now. While the season is still far from over with plenty of baseball left to be played, the Dodgers are playing like they want to walk away with the NL West division with their 12 games lead over the Rockies the only double-digit lead among all of MLB’s divisions.
Atlanta has been playing well after a slow start and maybe a team to watch in the next month or so if they continue their upward movement, the Cubs and Brewers are also in the hunt but these are two teams who may be busy trying to beat each other in their division than catching up with the Dodgers.
Los Angeles’ is doing the job on both ends of the field. Their run difference of +125 is the highest in the Majors and is twice better than the next best run differential in the National League. No question, when it comes to the NL Pennant winner, the team to beat right now is the Los Angeles Dodgers. Prediction: Los Angeles Dodgers
