2020 UEFA Champions League Betting Odds and Preview

The UEFA Champions League is a yearly club football competition contested by European top-division football clubs to decide in order to decide who is the best football team in Europe. The tournament is organized by UEFA or the Union of European Football Association and was first introduced in 1955 as the European Cup.

32 teams play in the competition and they are divided into eight groups. The group members play each other in a double round robin format. The top teams from each group advance to the knockout rounds which conclude with the final scheduled for May or June of each year. The winner of the Champions League automatically qualifies for the following year’s Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

Since its inception, a total of 22 teams have won the UEFA Champions League with 12 of those winning more than one time. Real Madrid is the winningest side with 13 titles. Spanish clubs have won the UEFA Champions League 18 times while English clubs have 12 and Italian Clubs have 12. England has the most clubs emerging as champions with a total of five.

The 2020 UEFA Champions League is the 65th season of the premier club football tournament in Europe. Qualification runs from June 25-August 28, 2019. The tournament proper begins on September 17, 2019, and the final is scheduled for May 30, 2020, at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey.

Liverpool is the defending champions after beating the Tottenham Hotspurs 2-0 in the 2019 UEFA Champions League final. This year, the defending champions are third on the odds board dated 7/7/19 at TitanBet.com.

Who Are The Favorites?

The soccer betting odds are saying that Manchester City has the best shot at winning the 2020 UEFA Champions League. Manchester City has won back-to-back English Premier League titles and they have closed out last season with 14 consecutive wins. Manchester City also made history last season as they became the first team to complete the English Treble. Manchester City won the FA Cup, Premier League, and Carabao Cup to become the first team to win all three major English titles. With owner Sheikh Mansour giving the team the financial muscle, City is favorites to win despite never winning the Champions League or even being close to doing so. They lost in the quarterfinals the last time out.

Liverpool is the defending Champions League titlists but one day after their triumph, they were installed as only the second-best favorites. Currently, they have fallen to third the odds board. However, when you consider how they pushed Manchester City down the wire in the last Premier League season, you have to like Liverpool’s chance to win their third straight UEFA Champions League title and their six overall. Jurgen Klopp’s boys have displayed tremendous resilience and desire but maybe after winning in the last two years, their bigger goal may be winning the Premier League title.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are expected to make big moves in the summer. This early, we’ve seen Barca sign, Frenkie de Jong of Ajax, already. WIth Lionel Messi coming off a season where he led La Liga with 36 goals on the season, Barcelona is once again among the top betting favorites to win the UEFA Championship. Real Madrid has already made a splash early in the summer when they bagged Belgian star Eden Hazard in the transfer market. Likewise, Real Madrid also brought back Zinedine Zidane to be their boss after struggling with their last three coaches.

Paris-Sain Germain has won six French titles in the last seven years, easily stamping their class in the Ligue. Ever since the Qatar Sports Investment or QSI took over in 2011, they have given PSG all the financial backing to dominate Ligue 1. But despite being equally well-funded as the betting favorites Manchester City, PSG haven’t been close to winning the UEFA Champions League trophy.

Who Wins?

No doubt that Manchester City is a deserving favorite here. The financial muscle we talked about earlier is going to be in play this summer when Pep Guardiola makes moves in the transfer market. Guardiola has also been very successful everywhere he’s gone and he is the first manager to win back to back titles in the La Liga, Bundesliga and the Premier League. With the Champions League trophy the only one missing in the Manchester City collection.

Liverpool has an equally impressive side but between winning the Champions League and the English Premier League, the latter will likely be their priority especially after how close they were the last time out.

I think that the odds for the Spanish Giants present the best betting value right now. Barca looks as good as ever with Messi leading the way. They are also expected to add more pieces during the transfer market. Looking at Real Madrid, they have made the biggest summer acquisition so far in Eden Hazard. Also, with Zidane not only having the same financial backing as Manchester City is but being told that he could mold his team with his preference, I think Real Madrid at +800 is the solid pick here.

When it comes to betting value, German champions Bayern Munich may have the best among the leaders. At +1000, Bayern Munich has the right mix of high-level experience and organized coaching. They may not have the same financial machine as those of Manchester City and Real Madrid, but sometimes the intangibles like vast experience, and

Excellent coaching will go a long way.

Prediction: I like Real Madrid especially with Zidane back and Eden Hazard in town. I really think they are going to have a special season. I’m picking Real Madrid here because I think they have better betting value but I won’t mind if you go with Bayern Munich as your dark horse pick.
