The San Francisco 49ers head to the SoFi Stadium to take on the Los Angles Rams in the rematch of last season’s NFC title game.
Last year, the 49ers were one quarter away from a trip to Super Bow LVI. However, the Rams scored 13 4th quarter points to beat San Francisco 20-17. Los Angeles would go all the way to win the Lombardi trophy. These teams have already met once this season with the 49ers exacting revenge with a 24-9 win.
San Francisco is 3-4 SU on the season and they are in third place in the NFC West Division. Meanwhile, Los Angeles is 3-3 SU on the season and they are in second place in the NFC West division team standings. The Rams are well-rested here coming off a bye week.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers got their revenge of sorts when they defeated the Los Angeles Rams 24-9 last October 3. San Francisco is however coming off double-digit losses to the Falcons and Chiefs after winning three of their previous four games played. The Niners added Christian McCaffrey last week but they lost by three touchdowns to the Chiefs last week,
Jimmy Garropolo has passed for 1,456 yards with 9 TDs and a QBR of 41.6. Jeff Wilson Jr. leads the team with 454 rushing yards on 88 carries with two TDs. Meanwhile, Brandon Aiyuk has caught 32 passes for 402 yards with 3 TD grabs. Nick Bosa leads San Francisco with 7 sacks while Talanoa Hufanga has 3 INTs to lead the team.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams have hardly resembled the Super Bowl LVI champions that they are. They were blown out by the current betting favorite Buffalo Bills in Opening week. Los Angeles then picked up back-to-back wins over the Falcons and Cardinals before losing two in a row to the 49ers and Cowboys. The Rams bounced back last week to beat the Panthers 24-10.
Matthew Stafford has thrown for 1,576 yards with 5 TDs and a QBR of 43.4. Darrell Henderson Jr. has 181 rushing yards on 46 carries with 2 TDs. On the other hand, Cooper Kupp is having another sensational season with 607 receiving yards on 54 catches with 4 TD catches. Aaron Donald has 4 sacks to lead the Rams while Bobby Wagner leads the team with 46 tackles.
49ers vs Rams SU Prediction
Head to head, the 49ers have won seven out of their last 10 games played against the Rams. San Francisco is also 7-3 SU in their last 10 games played at SoFi Stadium.
San Francisco 49ers SU trends:
-
The 49ers are 3-5 SU in their last 8 games played.
-
The 49ers are 1-3 SU in their last four road games played.
-
The 49ers are 2-4 SU in their last 6 Week 7 games played.
Los Angeles Rams SU trends:
-
The Rams are 12-4 SU in their last 16 games played.
-
The Rams are 5-2 SU in their last 7 games against the NFC West Division.
-
The Rams are 4-1 SU in their last 5 Week 8 games played.
The 49ers were the big headliners before the weekend as they pulled off a trade to acquire Christian McCaffrey in exchange for a package of draft picks. McCaffrey however was a limited participant in his debut against the Kansas City Chiefs and he was able to rush for just 38 yards on 8 carries and 24 receiving yards on two catches. San Francisco however lost 44-23 at home and dropped to 3-5 SU and 4-4 ATS over their last 8 games played.
McCaffrey should play a bigger role against the Rams this weekend as he’s had a full week to get acclimated with his new team. If McCaffrey returns to his usual self, the 49ers’ offense will be loaded with Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, and George Kittle. If this offense gets humming, they are going to be tough to stop, even against the Rams.
The defending Super Bowl champions snapped a 0-2 SU and ATS skid by defeating the Carolina Panthers 24-10 at home. The Rams trailed 10-7 at the break before scoring 17 unanswered points to pick up the victory. Matthew Stafford completed 26 of 33 passes for 253 passing yards with 1 TD and 1 INT.
Los Angeles is just 2-2 SU and ATS over its last four games played and they are scoring an average of only 15.8 points per game during that period. Cooper Kupp is having another spectacular season as the team’s top receiver. However, the Rams need to mix it up and do a better job running the football. Cam Akers is out due to personal reasons and Darrell Henderson Jr. will serve as the team’s primary running back on Sunday.
It’s hard to imagine the Rams’ stopping this 49ers’ offense. So the onus is on Matthew Stafford and the passing game to make things happen here. Los Angeles had an extra week to prepare for this game and look for ways to improve their offense. Give me the Rams to win this one.
Prediction: Los Angeles Rams +1.5

Odds from BetOnline as of 10/28/2022
The Rams are coming off a solid performance against the Carolina Panthers before taking their bye week. Now, Los Angeles has had the extra week to prepare for this matchup as they are coming off a bye week.
These teams played last October 3 with the 49ers beating the Rams 24-9. Los Angles’ offense sputtered that day as they produced just 257 total yards with two turnovers and just 5-15 on third down ties. No question that the Rams need to bounce back here but given their talent and experience, I think they are going to do so.
Prediction: Rams +1

Odds from BetOnline as of 10/28/2022
These two teams have combined to score an average of 46.60 points per game in their last 10 head-to-head meetings and just 40.33 points per game in their most recent three encounters.
San Francisco’s first four games went under 42.5 points and overall, they have gone under that total five times in seven games played so far this season. The Rams have also gone under 42.5 points five times in seven games played this year, including their last four.
These teams combined for 33 points in their first meeting of the season last October 3. Although the 49ers added Christian McCaffrey since that meeting, the Rams’ offense has been struggling as of late, scoring just 43 points in their last three games played.
Los Angeles has the defense to keep this a low-scoring contest. Unless the Los Angeles offense suddenly comes back to life, this is going to be another low-scoring matchup where the Rams lean on their defense for the win.
Prediction: Under 42.5
