The inaugural season of the Alliance of American Football (AAF) is already three weeks old. Last week, we saw our first upset with the then-winless Stallions stunning the then-unbeaten Hotshots. We also saw the Apollos establish themselves as the top team in the AAF. Also, the Express and Legends are still winless thru week 3. With week 4 around the corner, let’s take a look at the upcoming action.
Here is the complete Week 4 schedule:
Matchup | Time | Network |
---|---|---|
San Diego Fleet at Memphis Express | 4 p.m., Saturday | B/R Live/ fuboTV |
Orlando Apollos at Salt Lake Stallions | 8 p.m.,Saturday | NFL Net/ fuboTV |
San Antonio Commanders at Birmingham Iron | 4 p.m., Sunday | CBSSN/ fuboTV |
Atlanta Legends at Arizona Hotshots | 8 p.m., Sunday | NFL Net/ fuboTV |
Now that we know the schedule, let’s preview each game and pick our winner:
The San Diego Fleet had a rough opening week but have shown improvement ever since. After their loss in week 1, they changed starting quarterbacks and started to run the ball more. The result? Ja’Quan Gardner ran for 104 and then 121 yards in their next two games which the Fleets both won. Aside from their offensive turnaround, San Diego also plays very good defense. San Diego has 11 sacks and 5 interceptions thru three games and the Fleet have also allowed no more than 12 points per game.

The Memphis Express are winless in three games but in their last outing, they came back and almost beat the highly touted Orlando Apollos. Mike Singletary benched Christian Hackenberg in favor of Zach Mettenberger and the latter responded by going 9-12 for 120 yards with two scores plus a two-point conversion against Orlando. Mettenberger is going to start in week 4 and we should see a more competitive Memphis team in Week 4.
Prediction: Memphis Fleet -6, Under 41.5
With an offense that is hard to stop, the Orlando Apollos are the best team in the league early in the season. The Apollos are unbeaten at 3-0 and they lead the league in scoring at 32.7 points per game. Their starting quarterback Garrett Gilbert is the league leader in passing yards at 827 while receivers Charles Johnson and Jalin Marshall are in the Top 5 in receiving yards.

The Salt Lake Stallioins snapped the Arizona Hotshots’ unbeaten run in week 3. Now the Stallions get to relish the spoiler role again this week against the Apollos. Quarterback Josh Woodrum finally had a big game in week 3 as he converted on 22 of 31 passes for 178 yards with one touchdown plus a two-point conversion. Salt Lake also has the best 1-2 running back tandem in the league in Brandon Allen and Joel Bouagnun who both rank in the Top 10 in rushing yards.I think it’s going to be a good game but the Apollos may be too good for the Stallions.
Prediction: Orlando Apollos -4, Over 42.5
The San Antonio Commanders have lost two straight games after winning their season opener and right now, they are a mess on both sides of the field. The Commanders have given up 68 points in their last two games and benched starting quarterback Logan Woodside in week 3 in favor of backup Marquise Williams who completed all four of his passes for 21 yards while also running the ball five times for a total of 33 rushing yards. It’s unclear who gets the start in this game but regardless of who it will be San Antonio is going to struggle against arguably the top defense in the AAF.

Odds from betonline.ag as of 2/28/19
The Birmingham Iron are 3-0 this season and they have been winning despite an offense that hasn’t looked impressive. Quarterback Luis Perez is averaging just 5.8 yards per attempt while running back Trent Richardson, who leads the league with six touchdowns, is averaging only 2.5 yards per carry. But the Birmingham defense has been stout, allowing just seven points per game and forcing a league-best total of 8 turnovers in three games played.
Prediction: Birmingham Iron -7, Under 38
Thru three weeks of action, the Atlanta Legends look like they are the worst among the eight AAF teams. Atlanta’s offense averages just 4.4 yards per play and they score just an average of 10 points per game, the lowest in the AAF. The Legends have scored just two touchdowns in three games and have been forced to commit a total of 10 turnovers. Their defense isn’t any better as it has yielded a total of 92 points in just three games.

Odds from betonline.ag as of 2/28/19
The Arizona Hotshots have one of the best lineups in the league. But the team could be facing a big problem in week 4 as starting quarterback John Wolford suffered a back injury in week 3 and his backup, Trevor Knight, completed just 6 of 15 passes for 68 yards. Wolford though is listed as day-to-day and the Hotshots hope he can suit up for this contest. Aside from Wolford, Arizona is also dealing with injuries to LB Steven Johnson and DB SaQuan Edwards who are both out with hamstring injuries. The injuries should make this game interesting but the better team will be victorious.
Prediction: Arizona Hotshots -13.5, Under 42
