The Oakland A’s and Los Angeles Angels play Game 2 of their current set on Wednesday night at the Angel Stadium in Anaheim.

Oakland is 39-66 on the season and they are at the bottom of the AL West division standings and are 28 games behind their division leaders Houston Astros. The A’s are 6-4 in their last 10 games played and have lost their last three, including Tuesday’s Game 1 against the Angels.

The Angels are 44-59 on the season and they are one spot higher than the Athletics in the division standings. Los Angeles is 22 games behind the Astros and is just 5-5 in their last 10 games The Angels are also 10 games off the wild card pace in the AL and look to be out of playoff contention right now.

In his last start, Kaprielian allowed only one earned run in 6.0 innings while picking up his second win of the season the A’s beat the White Sox 7-3. Oakland is 5-1 in his last five starts.

Los Angeles Angels

The Angels are coming off a 1-3 series loss to the Texas Rangers. Los Angeles’ offense is going through a rough patch and their inability to give run support has cost this team wins in recent weeks. In Game 1 of this series, David Fletcher announced his return with a leadoff homer that set the tone for their 3-1 series opener victory.

Los Angeles will be sending their dual-threat superstar in Game 2 of this series. Shohei Ohtani is 9-6 on the season with an ERA of 2.81 and a WHIP of 1.02. The Japanese star ranks 7th overall with 145 strikeouts and only 23 walks. Ohtani has allowed only 11 home runs in 99.1 innings pitched this season.

Given how good he is, I expect Ohtani to return to form against the A’s who aren’t among the scoring elites in the league this season.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles’ bats are currently in a rough stretch as they can’t hit big bombs as they did earlier this season. The Angels’ offensive struggles should make this a close contest. And a low-scoring one at that.
