Dave Allen vs Lucas Browne 4/20/19 Boxing Odds, Preview and Prediction

Nicknamed the White Rhino, Allen is known for his toughness and rugged fighting style. The 27 year old has a record of 16-4-2 with 13 knockouts. Win or lose, Allen is unafraid to face anybody. He has challenged twice for the Commonwealth Heavyweight title but lost on his first try and drew on his second, both to Lenroy Thomas. He also has losses to Luis Ortiz and Dillian Whyte.

Allen stands 6-3 and has a reach of 75 inches and fights out of the orthodox stance. Since his loss to Tony Yoka last June, Allen has won three straight bouts, all by stoppage. Big Daddy

Big Daddy Lucas Browne is the first Australian world heavyweight boxing champion. The 39 year old from Wales knocked out Ruslan Chagaev in 2016 to win the WBA regular heavyweight title. However, Browne failed a drug test and was stripped of the belt even before defending it. Browne suffered his first career loss to Dillian Whyte last year, via 6th round TKO.

Browne has a record of 27-1 with 24 knockouts. Big Daddy is 6-5 tall with a reach of 77 inches and he too fights out of the orthodox stance. Browne has also won three consecutive bouts since losing to Whyte and is looking to challenge Britain’s David Price if he is going to beat Allen here, which is a tough task.

Who Wins?

This is a good match-up, really. I mean, these aren’t the best fighters in the sport but when it comes to providing entertainment value, this fight should deliver excitement. Both are pressure fighters and are aggressive on offense but as I said earlier, they aren’t the best heavyweights in the business although Browne could say he is a former world champion.

When it comes to punching power, both men can hit hard but I think Browne has more pop in his punches than Allen. However, Browne has been stopped before while Allen has never been knocked out. These two have a common opponent in Dillian Whyte. Whyte beat Allen on points but the Body Snatcher knocked out Lucas Browne cold so that says something there. I think Allen has the better chin between the two and if this becomes a telephone booth war, I think Allen walks out standing.

But to me the biggest factor in this fight is going to be the timing of this fight. Browne has the better resume here for sure as he is a former WBA world heavyweight champion. Big Daddy is already 39 years old but has kept himself active. However, his recent form hasn’t been at all likeable. On the other hand, Allen has been knocking people out here and there but I’m not also sure who those bodies were.

Browne has the edge in experience but the wheels might have already fallen off him at this stage. Meanwhile, the 27-year old Allen is on the rise, brimming with confidence and has the crowd behind him. That puts plenty of pressure but he’s been waiting to collect a big name and Lucas may be it. Allen has also improved since losing to Lenroy Thomas so I’m giving the edge to the young Brit here. I’m picking David Allen to beat Lucas Browne by knockout.

Dereck Chisora vs Senad Gashi

Former heavyweight title challenger Dereck Chisora was eyeing a bout with former WBO champion Joseph Parker but some unknown reason, the Kiwi didn’t take the fight. Instead, the 35 year old from Britain will be taking on Senad Gashi in the 12 bout which is actually the main event of this April 20 event.

Chisora is 29-9 with 21 knockouts and is coming off a heartbreaking 11th round TKO loss to Dillian Whyte last December. Chisora is 6-1 with a reach of 74 inches. The 28 year old Gashi is also coming off a knockout loss to Carlos Takam on the same fight card where Chisora lost to Whyte. His record says he is a knockout artist with all his wins coming via knockout but he hasn’t fought anyone near the level of Chisora’s competition. Age will be a factor here though but given how Chisora fought before Whyte knocked him out, there is still some gas left in that tank. Other than age, I see no advantage for Gashi. Prediction: Dereck Chisora by decision

Joe Cordina vs Andy Townend

Joe Cordina is one of the better prospects in the UK right now. He is unbeaten in 8 bouts and is coming off a points win over a good British level opponent in Sean Dodd. Te 26-year old Rio Olympian has fast hands and powerful fists and he’s knocked out six out of his first eight opponents.

Andy Townend is called the KO Kid for obvious reasons. He is 22-4 with 14 knockouts. The 29 year old from Barnsley in Yorkshire, U.K. has won six straight bouts since losing by TKO Martin Joseph Ward in 2016. Townend and Cordina were set to fight last year at the Anthony Joshua vs Joseph Parker but Townend withdrew from the fight. Townend is a decent fighter and you’ve got to like what he’s done so far in stopping opponents but Cordina has a pedigree that’s tough to match. I know he’s untested and he’s still raw but the speed, power and ring IQ are going to carry him here. Prediction: Joe Cordina by decision or late knockout

Josh Kelly vs Przemyslaw Runowski

Pretty Boy Josh Kelly 8-0 with 6 knockouts. After shutting out veteran Carlos Molina in 10 rounds to win the WBA international welterweight title, Kelly has won back to back fights via stoppage. The former 2016 Olympian stands 5-10 with a reach of 71 inches while fighting at the orthodox stance.

Przemyslaw Runowski is unbeaten in 17 fights but with only three knockouts. The 24 year old from Poland has a good record on paper but I don’t think he will stand a chance against Kelly who is just oozing with talent. Runowski is a decent boxer but his hands aren’t as fast as Kelly’s and he also doesn’t have the punching power to get Kelly’s attention. Prediction: Josh Kelly by wide unanimous decision
