The Charlotte Hornets look to snap their two-game losing streak when they hit the road and travel to the Fiserv Forum to take on the defending NBA champions Milwaukee Bucks.

Charlotte is coming off a 133-119 loss to the Chicago Bulls last Monday, their second straight defeat after a stretch where they lost just once in eight games played. The Hornets are 13-10 on the season and 6-8 on the road this year. They have the 3rd best record in the Southeast Division but are just one game behind the Miami Heat in the team standings.

Milwaukee meanwhile, has won seven straight games and five straight at the Fiserv Forum. The Bucks are 13-8 on the season and they are in second place in the Central Division, just one-half game behind the Chicago Bulls. The Bucks are expected to debut new addition DeMarcus Cousins whom the team signed to a non-guaranteed deal on Tuesday.

Charlotte Hornets

LaMelo Ball lost the battle of the Big Baller Brothers when the Chicago Bulls defeated the Charlotte Hornets. LaMelo had 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 13 assists but shot just 5-15 from the floor while big bro Lonzo had 16 on 6-8 shooting including 4-5 from deep. Terry Rozier led Charlotte in the loss with 31 points on 6-7 three-point shooting while Gordon Hayward added 22.

The Hornets shot the ball well against the Bulls at 47.7% from the field but they allowed the Bulls to shoot better at 59.6%. Both teams also shot the ball well from deep with Charlotte at 46.2% and Chicago at 46.7%. However, the Bulls made 11 more field goals overall and played better team ball with 35 assists compared to the Hornets’ 23.

Charlotte is the no.1 scoring team in the NBA at 114.4 points per game They are 3rd in passing at 26.3 assists per game but are just 22nd in rebounding at 44.7 boards grabbed per contest. The Hornets are next to last in scoring defense at 114.9 points per game allowed.

Milwaukee Bucks

The Bucks won their 7th consecutive game last Sunday when they defeated the Indiana Pacers 118-100. Giannis Antetokounmpo had a double-double with 26 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Bucks while Jrue Holiday added 23 points and 9 assists. Bobby Portis added 15 points and 6 rebounds while the bench duo of Pat Connaughton and George Hill combined to score 27 points.

Milwaukee shot 51.1% from the field while holding Indiana to just 41.3% FG shooting. The Bucks also outrebounded the Pacers 52-45 and issued more assists at 27-21. The big story of the game was Milwaukee’s dominance in the paint as they scored 62 points in the shaded lane compared to only 36 by the Pacers.

The Bucks rank 10th in scoring at 109.9 points per game scored this season. Milwaukee is also 2nd in rebounding at 47.5 boards grabbed per contest and is 18th in passing at 22.8 assists per game. The Bucks are 15th overall in scoring defense at 106.2 points per game allowed.

Who Wins?

Charlotte is 8-3 SU in their last 11 games played. The Hornets are 2-3 SU in their last five road games. Milwaukee is 7-0 SU in their last seven games played. The Bucks are 5-0 SU in their last seven games played at home.

Head to head, the Bucks are 7-3 SU in their last 10 games played against the Hornets. Milwaukee is also 6-1 SU in their last seven home games against Charlotte.

Milwaukee meanwhile, has won seven straight games and has scored 117 or more points in each of their last five games, winning all games by at least nine points, including double-digit winning margins in their last four games.

This is the Hornets’ third straight road game and they have gone 0-2 so far with their defense failing them in this road trip. Milwaukee is just 6-4 SU at home but they’ve won their last five games at the Fiserv Forum. The Bucks could also be debuting DeMarcus Cousins on Wednesday.

It’s not that Cousins would be a game-changer. But anytime a team gets a high-profile acquisition, it’s going to cause excitement and buzz. That could add more fire to the Bucks who are already fired up with seven consecutive dubs.

The total has gone under in 13 out of the last 18 games played by the Bucks. The under is 8-4 in their last 12 games against the Eastern Conference, 5-0 in their last five Wednesday games, 4-0 in their last four games after a two-day rest, 9-2 in their last 11 games against an opponent with a winning straight up record, 10-3 in their last 13 games when scoring 100 or more points in their previous game, and 21-6-1 in their last 28 home games played.

The Bucks’ total has gone over 230 only once in their last 10 games played and while the Bucks rank only 15th in scoring defense at 106.2 points per game allowed this season, they have allowed 102 or fewer points during five of their seven wins in their current streak and fewer than 100 points 4 times.

As we said earlier, their defense was the key to the Hornets winning seven of eight games before their current two-game skid. After those two games, they should be able to right the ship her. Charlotte allows the second-most points per game this season but has been successful when they tighten up the defense.

Look for the Hornets to fine-tune their defense here with the hopes of getting back on track. The Bucks can score tons of points, but they are up against the top-scoring team in the league and cannot afford a shootout against the Hornets.

This should be a defensive contest which Milwaukee will win being the better defensive unit.
