The Indiana Pacers look to stay alive in the postseason hunt when they visit the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.
Indiana is 28-35 SU on the season and they are in 4th place in the Central Division, 17.5 games off the pace set by the Milwaukee Bucks. However, Indiana is still 12th in the Eastern Conference team standings and is just 2 games off the 10th-seeded Washington Wizards and a spot in the play-in tournament. Indiana is 4-6 SU in their last 10 games played but has won 3 out of their last four games.
San Antonios is 15-47 SU on the season. Although the Spurs are not yet officially eliminated from playoff contention, they are 15 games off the 10th seed in the Western Conference. The Spurs are just 1-9 SU in their last 10 games played and they just snapped a 16-game losing streak in their previous game. San Antonio has the second-worst record in the Western Conference with only Houston’s 13-49 SU worse than them.
The Pacers picked up a huge win last Tuesday when they stunned the Dallas Mavericks on the road for their second consecutive win. That victory put them within two games of the 10th seed and they are also just 3 games off the 9th seed so if they can take care of business the rest of the way, the Pacers still have a chance to enter the postseason via the backdoor.
Tyrese Haliburton led Indiana with 32 points against Dallas while Myles Turner had another big game with 24 points. Jordan Nwora had 16 points off the bench while Aaron Nesmith had 14. Jalen Smith and Buddy Hield also scored in double digits with 11 and 110 points, respectively.
Haliburton leads the team with 20.1 points and 10.1 assists per game. Turner is also having a big season with 18.1 points per contest. Hield and Benedict Mathurin are putting up 17.3 points and 17.1 points per game, respectively.
The Spurs picked up a confidence booster when they defeated the Utah Jazz last Tuesday and end a humiliating 16-game losing streak. San Antonio trailed by two points at the start of the 4th quarter of that game but went on to outscore the Jazz 31-21 in the final period to pull off the victory.
Keldon Johnson led the Spurs with 25 points while Jeremy Sochan added 13. Doug McDermott came off the bench to put up 19 points while Devonte Graham contributed 12 points for San Antonio.
Johnson is San Antonio’s scoring leader at 21.8 points per game this season while Vassell is putting up 19.4 points per game this year. Graham is also putting up 13.4 PPG this year but San Antonio will play Indiana minus Linton Vassell, Khem Birch, Romeo Langford, and Isaiah Robey while Malaki Branham is listed as day-to-day.
The Pacers are 7-3 SU in their last 10 games played against the Spurs. Indiana is also 5-0 SU in their last 5 games played against San Antonio.

Time is of the essence for the Indiana Pacers who are two games off the 10th seed in the Eastern Conference and a spot in the Play-in tournament. With only 19 games left to play, every game is a must-win for Indiana, and games like this one are ones they should not slip away if they want to have a shot at the postseason.
The Pacers won its second straight game when it defeated the Dallas Mavericks 124-122 last Tuesday. Tyrese Haliburton led Indiana with 32 points while Myles Turner added 24. Turner has been one of the main reasons for the Pacers’ latest surge as he is averaging 29.4 points per game in his last three games played and has been shooting 69.3% from the floor during that span. Turner shot 10-13 from the floor against Dallas.
Meanwhile, the Spurs snapped a 16-game losing streak with a 102-94 win over the Utah Jazz on Tuesday. It marked only San Antonio’s second road win since mid-December. Keldon Johnson led the Spurs with 25 points while Doug McDermott added 19 and Jeremy Sochan contributed 13 points in the winning effort.
Johnson scored four points in the final minute to seal the win. He is averaging 21.4 points per game to lead the Spurs this season. Rookie Blake Wesley has also played well as of late for San Antonio. Wesley has been averaging 7.3 points per game on 7-17 shooting over his last 3 games played.
The Spurs beat the Pacers 137-134 in the second game of the regular season. San Antonio led that game from start to finish.
Indiana and San Antonio are trending in opposite directions. The Pacers are still in the running for a play-in tournament spot while the Spurs are in the running for the Wembanyama sweepstakes.
Sure, the Spurs are playing without pressure and have nothing to lose here. And yes, the pressure is on the Pacers to win this game so they can keep their postseason hopes alive.
As usual, I expect the Spurs to give their best effort. However, the Pacers have more firepower and more motivation to win this game than them.

The Pacers have outscored the Spurs by an average of 7 points per game in their last 3 head-to-head meetings. Indiana has won three out of its last four games played and their latest win over Dallas looked impressive, even if it was just a 2-point win.
San Antonio’s losing streak is no more. But despite a win in their last game, the Spurs are still at a disadvantage here. They are pretty banged up and defensively, they won’t be able to match up well against Indiana.
The San Antonio defense is allowing opponents to shoot 50.7% from the field and 39.5% from behind the arc. Look for the Pacers to take advantage of that and win this game by at least six points.
Prediction: Pacers -5
The over is 6-2 in the last 8 games played between these two teams.

We mentioned earlier how the Spurs struggle to defend their opponents. Likewise, the Pacers’ defense has been spotty this season and they have allowed 120+ points four times in their last six games played.
The Spurs are at the bottom of the league in scoring defense at 122.4 points per game allowed this season. They also place with the 6th fastest pace at 102.9 while the Pacers are 8th in pace at 102.7. The total has averaged 245 points in the Pacers’ last five games played.
Look for these teams to play a fast game with plenty of points on the scoreboard for both teams.
