Los Angeles Rams vs San Francisco 49ers 10/03/2022 NFL Odds and Prediction

The Los Angeles Rams visit Levi’s Stadium to take on the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4 action on Sunday.

Los Angeles has lost six consecutive regular seasons games against San Francisco but beat them in last season’s NFC title game when it mattered most. The Rams have also not won at Levi’s Stadium since 2018 and San Francisco will be looking to get their revenge after the narrow loss in the 2022 AFC Title Game.

The Rams are 2-1 on the season after defeating the Arizona Cardinals last weekend. Meanwhile, the 49ers dropped to 1-2 after losing a close contest against the Denver Broncos in Week 3.

Los Angeles Rams

After they were dominated by the Buffalo Bills on opening week, the Los Angeles Rams have bounced back with back-to-back victories. Last Sunday, Matthew Stafford threw for 249 yards and their defense contained Kyler Murray in Arizona for a 20-12 victory, their 11th in 12 games against the Cardinals. The trend is the opposite against the 49ers as the Rams are 0-6 SU in their last six regular-season showdowns.

Last Sunday, the Rams’ defense allowed the Cardinals to pick up 365 total yards but were impressive in the red zone by allowing them only 4 field goals all night long. Aaron Donald had one sack and two tackles for loss while Jalen Ramsey had a tackle for loss and two passes defended. Cam Akers had a good game with 61 rushing yards on 12 carries with one rushing touchdown.

San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco’s futures odds improved after Trey Lance got hurt but in his first start of the season, Jimmy Garoppolo struggled to move the ball and the offense fell flat in an 11-10 loss to the Denver Broncos. San Francisco was just 1-10 on third down conversions while Garoppolo finished with 211 passing yards with one TD and one INT on 18-29 passing. The 49ers hope Jimmy G. has shaken off the rust last week and will be back to his usual self on Monday.

Deebo Samuel led the 49ers with 73 yards on 5 catches but was held to six yards on five carries on the ground. San Francisco outgained Denver 267-261 in total offense. Their defense also held down the Broncos to 6-19 on third downs and a measly 3.7 yards per play. The defense also recorded four sacks and seven tackles for loss. However, San Francisco committed three turnovers and was unable to force a takeaway.

Rams vs 49ers Prediction

The Rams are 1-6 SU in their last seven games played against the 49ers. Los Angeles is also 3-6-1 SU in their last 10 games played in San Francisco.

The Rams’ offense wasn’t at its best form during last week’s 20-12 win over the Arizona Cardinals. However, the Los Angeles defense was on full display as they prevented Kyler Murray and the Cardinals to mount a comeback.

Murray completed 37 of 58 passes for 317 yards but the Rams’ defense kept him out of the end zone. Los Angeles also sacked Murray twice for 19 yards and allowed him to run for only 8 yards on two carries, essentially silencing the Arizona offense. On Monday, the Rams will face Jimmy G. who is coming off a shaky performance in Denver where he stepped out of bounds for safety that ended up costing them the game.

Garoppolo however, played against one of the league’s top defenses in the Broncos in his first start of the season after taking over from Trey Lance who is out with a season-ending knee injury. With Lance out, the 49ers’ offense lost the dual threat from the QB position. However, Jimmy G. provides them with a better passer and a proven winner.

With Garoppolo at the helm, the 49ers beat the Rams twice during the regular season in 2021 but lost to L.A. in a close NFC title game. Jimmy G. will have to use his legs more on Monday, especially since the Rams’ defense is coming off a big game.

The Rams’ defense has looked good. But with a struggling offense, I’m not sure if they can hang around with a veteran QB in Garoppolo who knows how to beat them and who wants payback after losing the NFL title game last season. Deebo Samuel has yet to have a big game this year, I expect him to finally break out on Monday.

Jimmy G. looked rusty last week but after that poor outing, I expect the veteran to return to form on Monday. Deebo Samuel has played well this season but he’s not had a big game yet this year. With vengeance in mind after last season’s NFC title game loss, I think Garoppolo and Samuel are going to have a big game here.

Los Angeles’ offense has not looked a bit like last year’s scoring machine and they will face a Top 5 defense in the 49ers. Look for the Rams to struggle to put up the points on the scoreboard in this game. I expect both defenses to show up and San Francisco’s better offense is going to be the key.
