Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns vs Miami-OH Redhawks 01/06/20 NCAAF Betting Odds and Preview

The Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns play the Miami-OH Redhawks in the LendingTree Bowl on January 6, 2020, at the Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, AL.

The Ragin’ Cajuns won 10 games this season and finished as a finalist in the Sun Belt Conference after losing to Appalachian State in the conference title game. This offensive-minded team is lead by QB Levi Lewis and is one of the most prolific offenses in the country. The RedHawks won the MAC-East Division with an 8-5 record and they went on to win the MAC Conference championship game. Miami-OH is one of the good defensive teams this season, ranking in the Top 40 in pass defense.

High-Powered Offense

Strong Defense

The Miami-OH Redhawks were one of the better defensive teams in college football this season with a Top 40 pass defense which was 3rd best in their conference. The Redhawks took advantage of an easy schedule and won eight games en route to winning the MAC Conference.

Brett Gabbert has thrown for a total of 2,163 yards with 11 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. Jaylon Bester rushed for a total of 689 yards with 12 touchdowns on 152 carries while Jack Sorenson was the top receiver with 461 receiving yards with four touchdowns on 34 catches.

Miami-OH is averaging 24.7 points per game this season but they have also allowed their opponents to score an average of 28.2 points per game. The Redhawks are giving up an average of 380.5 total yards per game but they are only producing 305.9 total yards of offense per outing.

Who Wins?

Louisiana-Lafayette is 6-1 SU in their last seven games played. The Ragin’ Cajuns are 4-1 SU away from home and 2-1 SU when playing at a neutral site this season. Miami-OH is 6-1 SU in their last seven games played. The Redhawks are 1-5 SU on the road and 2-0 SU when playing at a neutral venue this season.

Louisiana-Lafayette is a terrific offensive team. They are ranked 8th in the entire nation with an average of 501.3 total yards per game and have a balanced scoring attack. Although not playing at home, they will have some sort of advantage with this game played in the South of the country.

Miami-OH’s pass defense ranks in the Top 40 in the nation and third-best in the conference. However, their offense isn’t as good and that’s where they have struggled. This is the Redhawks’ first winning season since 2010 and their third bowl game appearance during that period.

I think the difference here is Louisiana-Lafayette’s offense and that difference is going to be huge. Miami has lost 40 consecutive games as double-digit underdogs and Louisiana is 6-0 SU in their last six games as betting favorites. I like the Ragin’ Cajuns to win this game because of their offense.

Anywhere I look at it, Louisiana-Lafayette is the better team than Miami-OH. The Ragin’ Cajuns are score 14 more points per game, generate 250 more yards per contest and they also have a very formidable pass rush. The Redhawks struggle defending the ground and that’s where Louisiana makes its living from. I like the Ragin’ Cajuns to cover the spread here. Louisiana is 9-2 ATS when picking up more than 450 total yards in their previous game. This is a big spread but I have no doubt the Cajuns will cover.

The Ragin’ Cajuns are giving up just 19.9 points per game this season while Miami-OH has a decent defense as far as yards per game are allowed so this should be a low-scoring affair. The Redhawks also don’t generate big plays from their offense and are usually eat up plenty of clock in trying to do so. Louisiana loves to run the football so there is a very good chance that the total isn’t going to hit 60 points in this game.

Prediction: Under 54.5
