The Louisville Cardinals will visit the red hot Clemson Tigers in a game between two teams who are going to opposite poles. The Cardinals are 2-6 on the season and have on the receiving end of blowout losses. The Tigers meanwhile are spotless this season and have been dominating in their last three games played.
A Convincing Win
Clemson improved to 8-0 last week after a convincing win over Florida State. Not only did the Tigers deal the Seminoles their worst home loss in school history, they also became the first team from the ACC to beat Florida State in four consecutive years. Clemson now has a clear path to the College Football Playoffs in December and they are doing so under a true freshman quarterback.
First year man Trevor Lawrence has been impressive since taking over the starting QB job from Kelly Bryant. Lawrence has thrown for 1,490 yards with 16 touchdowns and just two interceptions. Scouts and experts are saying as early as now that Lawrence could be a future #1 pick in the NFL draft and that may be the case. Against Louisville, Lawrence should have no problem throwing the ball.

A Disastrous Season
The post Lamar Jackson era has been disastrous after Louisville lost plenty of talent since last season. Bobby Petrino’s team doesn’t resemble the competitive program that they have been in recent years. Nothing seems to be going right as they have lost five games in a row with four losses coming by a losing margin of 18 points or more. The only teams they’ve beaten this year are Indiana State and Western Kentucky.
Louisville’s offense has been decent although quarterback Jawon Pass has thrown eight interceptions versus only seven touchdowns while completing just 55% of his passes. Terry Smith has 246 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns while Jalen Smith leads the Cardinals with 46 catches, 376 yards and 1 touchdown. But it’s been their defense that has been atrocious, giving up a terrible 160 points per game over their last three games.
Who Wins?
Louisville is 0-5 SU in their last 5 games played and 1-5 SU in their last 6 games on the road. Clemson is 5-0 SU in their last 5 games and 14-1 SU in their last 15 games at home. The Tigers have won the last four meetings between these two teams.
The Tigers own the nation’s #1 scoring defense at 13 points allowed per game. In their last three games, they have even been better by holding their opponents to ten or fewer points over those three games. Clemson has outscored their last three opponents by an aggregate score of 130-20, including a 63-3 mauling of Wake Forest which beat Louisville at the latter’s home field.
On the other hand, the Cardinals have given up 14 more points than they score per game. Louisville is also in the bottom 5 of NCAA Football (125th out of 130) in rush defense. That’s bad news against a Clemson squad that’s 14th in rush offense and 3rd in rushing touchdowns scored. I hate to say this but this one could be over by halftime and the spread could be covered after three quarters.
We’re picking the Clemson Tigers to beat the Louisville Cardinals on 11/3/18. The moneyline odds aren’t available yet but given that Clemson is a 38.5 favorite, there may be little or no value to their moneyline odds. So let’s take a look at the other bets to make.
Other Bets To Make
Louisville is 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games played and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games on the road. Clemson is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games at home. Head to head, Clemson is 2-1 ATS in the last three meetings between these two teams.

Spread Odds: Louisville +38.5 (-113), Clemson -38.5 (-107)
Odds from Sportsbetting.ag as of 10/31/18
After failing to cover in their first three games, Clemson has gone on to cover four out of their last five outings including last week’s 18 point road spread against the Florida State Seminoles. Louisville meanwhile failed to cover as 3 point favorites and dropped to 1-7 ATS on the season.
The 38.5 spread may look daunting at first but it’s actually the fifth time in the last four years where the Tigers are favored by at least 37 points while playing at home and Clemson’s record over those four games is 3-1 ATS. I think this one’s a no-brainer.
Prediction: Clemson -38.5
The total has gone over in 4 out of the last 5 games of Clemson. The over is 2-1 in Louisville’s three road games this season while the under is 3-0 in Clemson’s three home game this year. Head to head, the over is 2-1 in their last three meetings.
Louisville vs Clemson 11/3/18
Over/Under Odds: Over 60 -125, Under 60 +105
Odds from Sportsbetting.ag as of 10/31/18
Clemson has the 9th ranked rush defense in the nation and it allows the fewest points per game so there may be no point in Louisville trying to win this game on the ground. That said, their only chance to win this game is to engage in an aerial battle and try to get as many points as possible. Even if the Clemson defense is going to shut down the Cardinals offense, the Tigers are averaging 55.66 points per game in their last three games played.
Prediction: Over 60
