Monday night will feature an interesting game between the inconsistent Miami Marlins and the struggling Oakland Athletics.

Oakland has the worst record in the American League at 45-77. They are 32.5 games behind the Houston Astros in the American League West division and their playoff hopes were gone a long time ago. Miami has been better at 52-68 although they too are having a bad year. The Marlins are 26 games behind the Mets in the NL East and are 4th from the bottom in the National League team standings.

Miami Marlins

Miami got hammered by the Los Angeles Dodgers in their previous series. The feared Dodgers offense unleashed 17 combined runs in the final two games of their series. The Marlins will not worry about being outscored here as the A’s rank 29th overall in total runs scored this season.

The Marlins will be sending Pablo Lopez to the mound on Monday. The 26-year-old right-hander from Venezuela is 7-8 with an ERA of 3.83 and a WHIP of 1.17 in 24 starts this season.

Lopez has allowed 57 earned runs on 117 hits in 134.0 innings pitched this season. In his last start, Lopez conceded six runs on six hits in 4.2 innings pitched while picking up the loss against the Padres. The Marlins are 1-5 in Lopez’s last six starts.

Oakland Athletics

The A’s won the final two games of their three-game set against the Seattle Mariners to take a rare series win. Oakland has been struggling badly this season and is at the bottom of the American League. Overall, they have won four out of their last six-game played.
