Memphis Grizzlies vs Oklahoma City Thunder 2/7/19 NBA Odds, Preview and Prediction

The Memphis Grizzlies play the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.

Back To Back Wins

The Memphis Grizzlies downed the Minnesota Timberwolves 108-106 on Tuesday night to record their first back to back wins of the calendar year. The Grizzlies had not won two games in a row since December 27th when their win-loss record was 18-16. Memphis has struggled since, and the Grizzlies are now just 22-33 after Tuesday’s win.

Amidst trade rumors, Mike Conley has keyed Memphis’ last two wins. Conley is averaging 20.4 points, 6.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game this season. Marc Gasol, also hounded by trade chatter, is scoring 15.7 points and grabbing 8.6 boards per contest. Rookie Jaren Jackson is contributing 13.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game for the Grizzlies.

Memphis is the #1 defensive team in the league in terms of scoring defense as they’ve allowed opponents to score just 103.4 points per game this season. However, the Grizzlies are also dead-last among 30 teams in scoring at only 100.4 points per game scored. The team is ranked 20th in passing with 23.5 assists per game and are 29th in rebounding with 40.3 boards per contest.

Moneyline Odds: Grizzlies +925, Thunder -1400

Triple Double Run

The Oklahoma City Thunder are rolling with a 6-1 SU record in their last seven games  behind another triple-double run by Russell Westbrook. The 2017 NBA MVP has tied his career-best with seven consecutive triple-double games entering Thursday’s matchup with the Grizzlies. Westbrook has now quietly posted 20 triple-doubles this season to raise his career total to 124.

Westbrook is also on the verge of another triple-double season. He is averaging 21.4 points, 11.0 rebounds and 11.1 assists per game. Paul George leads the Thunder in scoring at 28.0 points while also collecting 7.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.3 steals per contest. Steven Adams is averaging 15.7 points and 9.8 rebounds per game for the Thunder.

Oklahoma City is ranked 5th in the NBA in scoring at 115.2 points per game. They are also 2nd in the league in rebounds at 48.0 boards per contest and are 22nd in assists at 23.3 dimes per game. The Thunder have the 12th best scoring defense at 110.0 opponent points allowed per game.

Who Wins?

Memphis is 3-7 SU in its last 10 games played. The Grizzlies are 1-3 SU in their last four road games. Oklahoma City is 8-2 SU in its last 10 games and the Thunder are 4-1 SU in their last five games played at home. Head to head, the Thunder are 9-1 SU in their last 10 games played against the Grizzlies.

Memphis has really struggled since late December. As noted earlier, they were 18-16 after their December 27th win over the Cavs. But they went 2-17 after that victory and prior to this two-game winning streak. Mike Conley and Marc Gasol are rumored to be on the trading block and with the deadline coming up, either or both could be on the move as you are reading this.

The Thunder meanwhile are probably playing their best basketball of 2019 as they have won eight out of their last nine with their only loss during that period a 129-134 setback to Boston in a game where they had a chance to win in the end game. Westbrook is having another triple double run and the Thunder are rolling with him and with PG13’s hot streak. George is averaging 34.0 points on 47.9% shooting in his last 10 games played.

Betting Prediction

While the Grizzlies await their fate, the Thunder are making their move and trying to chase the Top 2 teams in the West. Westbrook is locked in and George is red hot. Oklahoma City is 18-7 SU at home while Memphis is just 9-19 SU on the road this season. The Thunder have beaten the Grizzlies seven consecutive times. I don’t see it ending here, not with the way OKC’s stars are playing right now.

I’m picking the Oklahoma City Thunder to beat the Memphis Grizzlies on 2/7/19.

Betting Prediction

Memphis is 4-1 ATS in their last five games when playing on one day rest, 4-11 ATS in their last 15 road games and 8-20 ATS in their last 28 games overall. Oklahoma City is 4-1 ATS in their last five games played, 2-6 ATS in their last 8 against the Southwest Division and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games played on a Thursday. The Thunder are 7-1 ATS in their last eight meetings at the Chesapeake Energy Arena and 5-2 ATS overall in their last seven games against the Grizzlies. OKC has dominated this match-up and with the Grizzlies struggles this season, that domination should continue on Thursday.

Prediction: Thunder

The under is 7-3 in the last 10 games played by Memphis. The Grizzlies have seen the total go under in each of their last four road games. The over is 8-2 in the Thunder’s last 10 games played. The total has gone over in four out of the last five home games of the Thunder. Head to head, the over is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams.

What’re the Odds?

Memphis Grizzlies vs Oklahoma City Thunder 2/7/19
Over/Under Odds: Over 215 (-112), Under 215 (-108)
Odds from BetOnline.ag as of 2/7/19

Betting Prediction

The over is 12-2 in the Thunder’s last 14 games overall and the under is 4-1 in the Grizzlies’ last five games overall. It’s a game between OKC’s offense and the Grizzlies’ defense. The Thunder are averaging 124 points per game in their last 10 games played and with the way Russ and PG are playing, I don’t think the Grizzlies can stop the Thunder from putting points on the scoreboard.

Prediction: Over
