The New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers meet again on Friday night at Dodger Stadium for Game 2 of their current series.
The Dodgers snapped their three-game losing streak by defeating the Mets on Thursday 2-0 behind another solid outing from Tony Gonsolin who allowed only two hits in six scoreless innings as Los Angeles blanked New York 2-0.
Los Angeles is 34-17 on the season and they are 4 games ahead of the San Diego Padres in the NL West Division. The Dodgers are also back as the no. 1 team in the National League, overtaking the Mets. They are 6-4 in their last 10 games played and are 16-8 at home this season.
New York dropped to 35-18 after the loss to the Dodgers on Thursday. The Mets are still a solid 9.5 games ahead of the defending World Series champions Atlanta Braves in the National League East Division. New York is second behind Los Angeles in the League standings. The Mets are 7-3 SU in their last 10 games played and are 16-10 away from home this year.
The Mets saw their longest winning streak of the season end at the hands of the Dodgers on Thursday. New York had won six in a row, sweeping the Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals to temporarily take over the lead in the NL. However, the Dodgers took the lead back after Thursday’s win.
New York ranks second overall with a total of 271 runs scored this season. They rank first in team batting average at .268 and are also tops in OBP at .340. The Mets’ slugging percentage of .410 ranks 5th in baseball. Pete Alonso leads the team with 47 RBIs and 13 home runs while Jeff McNeil is their best hitter at .320.
Chris Bassitt will open for the Mets on Friday. The 33-year-old right-hander is 4-2 with an ERA of 3.66 and a WHIP of 1.17 in a total of 10 starts this season. Bassitt has allowed 24 runs on 50 hits with nine home runs while striking out 60 and walking 19 hitters in a total of 59.0 innings pitched.
Bassitt picked up the win in his last start where he allowed only one run on two hits in six innings pitched during a 5-4 win over the Phillies. The Mets are 4-1 in his last five starts.
After losing three straight games and getting swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates at home for the first time in 22 years, the Dodgers bounced back with a solid 2-0 win over their top NL rivals Mets in the opening game of this series. With the win, the Dodgers reclaimed the lead in the League team standings.
The Dodgers rank 1st in the major with a total of 274 runs scored. They are 5th in batting average at .253 and are second in on-base percentage at .328. Los Angeles is also the top slugging team in baseball at .432. Mookie Betts leads the Dodgers in batting average at .310 and home runs with 16. Trea Turner leads the team with 41 RBIs on the season.
Tyler Anderson will start for the Dodgers in Game 2. The 32-year-old left-hander is having his best year with a record of 6-0 in 7 starts and a total of nine games pitched. He has an ERA of 2.90 and a WHIP of 1.01. Anderson has allowed 16 runs on 44 hits with 48 strikeouts and six walks.
Anderson pitched six scoreless innings in his last start, giving up only five hits with six strikeouts and one walk during a 3-1 win over the Diamondbacks. The Dodgers are 4-1 in his last five starts.

Anderson is having his best season ever and is 6-0 this season. However, he will be facing a Mets team that has scored at least five runs in eight out of their last 10 outings and at least six times during that span. Having said that, this won’t be an easy outing for him.
New York has a solid .243 batting average against left-handers this season and is averaging 4.82 runs per nine innings. The Dodgers struggled to score only 11 total runs when they were swept by the Pirates.
It’s always tough to bet against the Dodgers who have been historically excellent statistically. But if there’s a time to beat the Dodgers, that time may be now as they were swept by a lowly Pirates team in their previous series.
Sure, the Dodgers beat the Mets in the opening games of this series but Bassitt is coming off a terrific start against the Phillies and he should carry the momentum here. Bassitt is also 4-2 on the season with an ERA of 3.66.
The Mets win this game with better offense and a quality performance from Chris Bassitt. New York should bounce back to win Game 2 and even the series.

These teams have combined to score an average of 7.70 runs per game in their last 10 head-to-head meetings and 7.0 runs per game in their most recent three encounters. The Mets have allowed their opponents to score a total of 11 runs in their last five games played while the Dodgers offense has scored four runs in four out of their last five games played.
Anderson is enjoying the best season of his career and is posting an ERA of 2.90 and a WHIP of 1.01 and an impressive 48:6 K: BB ratio. He won his only start against the Mets last season.
Meanwhile, Chris Bassitt returned to form after rocky starts against the Saint Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants. Bassitt allowed only one run on two hits during a 5-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in his latest start.
The Mets have held their last two opponents scoreless and have a total of 9 scoreless games pitched this season. Given how well the two starters have been playing, this should be a low-scoring game that hits the under.
