The Miami Heat travel to Motown to take on the Detroit Pistons in Friday night NBA action at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

Miami is looking to rebound from a huge road loss to the Milwaukee Bucks while the Pistons look to build on their win over the Orlando Magic.

Heat Making Their Move

After a slow start and despite being hounded by injuries early in the season, the Miami Heat have managed to stay afloat and now are making their move. Miami is at 21-21 and in 7th spot in the Eastern Conference team standings. The Heat though are coming off a 38 point road loss to the Milwaukee Bucks and for sure, they want to erase that memory as soon as possible.

Josh Richardson leads Miami with 17.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Dwyane Wade, playing in his final NBA season, is still putting up decent numbers with 13.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game while Justise Winslow is coming to his own as the lead point guard. Winslow is averaging 12.2 points and 4.2 assists per game.

Miami is 25th in the league in scoring at 106.2 points per game. However, the Heat make up for that by having the 5th best scoring defense in the NBA at 106.1 points per game allowed. The Heat are ranked 19th in assists at 23.6 per game and they are also 6th in rebounding at 47.0 boards per game.

Moneyline Odds: Heat +110, Pistons -130

Struggling To Find Consistency

The Detroit Pistons have struggled to find consistency this season. After coming out of the gates fast this season, they have noticeably slowed down and are now five games below the .500 mark. Detroit has lost seven of their last 10 games but they should enter this game with confidence after beating the Orlando Magic 120-115 last Wednesday night.

Blake Griffin is Detroit’s main man. The former Clippers star is averaging 25.5 points, 8.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game this season. Andre Drummond is having a sensational double-double season with 16.7 points and a league-leading 15..2 rebounds per contest. Reggie Jackson and Reggie Bullock are contributing 14.6 and 12.2 points per game, respectively.

The Pistons are 24th in the league in scoring at 106.9 points per game. Detroit is allowing their opponents to score 109.5 points per game which puts them at 13th in scoring defense. The Pistons are also ranked 26th in passing at 22.0 assists per game and 12th in rebounding at 45.7 boards per contest.

Who Wins?

Miami is 5-5 SU in their last 10 games played. The Heat are 1-2 SU in their last three road games played. Detroit is 3-7 SU in their last 10 games played including 1-2 SU in three home games during that period. Head to head, the Heat are 6-4 SU in their last 10 meetings versus the Pistons.

Miami has slowly climbed back to playoff contention by playing solid defense. The Heat have held 12 out of their last 15 opponents to below their season scoring average and Miami has gone 10-5 over that period. Likewise, the Heat are 13-1 when holding their opponents to below 100 points per game so no doubt, they will try to slow down this ballgame. The Heat allow the 5th fewest points per game and they also give up the second lowest opponent field goal percentage in the league.

The Pistons now find themselves five games below the .500 mark after being one of the best teams during the opening month of the season. Detroit hasn’t found any level of consistency this season and right now, they’ve won just thrice in their last 10 games played. Blake Griffin is having a resurgent season but his crew hasn’t been able to replicate his success.

Betting Prediction

Detroit is 12-10 at home while the Heat are 10-9 on the road. Miami is coming off their worst loss of the season, a 38-point blowout at the hands of the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night. The Heat though were 4-2 SU before that so it’s not that they are on a slide. The Pistons have won twice in their last seven games and just 1-2 in their last three at home. Miami’s defense is going to shackle Detroit.

We’re picking the Miami Heat to beat the Detroit Pistons on 1/18/19.
