New York Giants vs San Francisco 49ers 11/12/18 NFL Odds, Preview and Prediction

The New York Giants take on the San Francisco 49ers in a Monday Night Football showdown between two division cellar dwellers at the Levi’s Stadium.

The 1-7 Giants are at the bottom of the NFC East while the 2-7 49ers are last in the NFC West division.  New York has lost five games in a row while the 49ers finally broke out of a six game losing spell last week.

Giants’ Miserable Offense

Giants’ rookie running back Saquon Barkley has been good as advertised for the Giants. Barkley has rushed for a total of 519 yards and has caught a total of 497 yards on the season. With already 1,000 combined yards at the midway mark of the Giants’ season, Barkley has a chance to become only the third player in NFL history to accumulate 1000 rushing and 1000 receiving yards during the same season.

Outside Saquon Barkley though, the Giants’ offense has been miserable to say the least. Eli Manning has repeatedly failed to move the Giants on the field this season. The Giants are ranked 26th in the league with a 35% third down conversion rate. They also score just 18.8 points per game this season and have even regressed to 15.33 over their last three games.

Mullens A Revelation

For San Francisco, undrafted first year quarterback Nick Mullens was a revelation in their last game. With C.J. Beathard unable to play because of an injured wrist, Mullens stepped in and delivered a performance of a lifetime to give the suffering 49ers an emphatic 34-3 win over the hapless Oakland  Raiders.

After an impressive NFL debut, Mullens will get the start for the 49ers in this game. In his first ever NFL game last November 1, 2018, Mullens went 16-22 for 262 passing yards while throwing three touchdowns with zero interceptions and giving the 49ers their second win of what has been a long season. Matt Breida leads San Francisco with 531 rushing yards with two scores. Tight End George Kittle has been the most productive receiver on the season with 692 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Who Wins?

The Giants are 0-5 SU in their last five games played and 1-7 SU in their last 8 games on the road. On the other hand, the 49ers are 1-6 SU in their last 7 games played but are 4-2 SU in their last 6 games played at home. Head to head, the Giants are 6-3 SU in their last 9 games against the 49ers but are only 5-12 SU in their last 17 games versus  the 49ers in San Francisco.

The Giants have won six out of the last 10 meetings between these two teams but the 49ers have won two out of the last three including the most recent one, a 31-21 home win last November 12, 2017. With Mullens starting against the Giants, it’s hard to gauge the Niners right now. We can’t judge them based on a one game sample size. Still, last week’s effort was great given the kind of season they’ve had. Likewise, I’m not sure how the Giants are going to play the rest of the way. But if we take a look at both rosters, New York certainly has the more talented crew.

Betting Prediction

All things considered, this game could swing either direction. But I like to believe that because they are playing at home, the 49ers are going to come out aggressive and they are going to give Mullens another chance to deliver. Both of their wins this season have come at home so there’s no doubt this team plays better in front of their crowd.

We’re picking the San Francisco 49ers to beat the New York Giants on 11/12/18.

Other Bets To Make

The Giants are 4-2 ATS in their last 6 road games and 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games on the road against the 49ers. However, New York is only 2-4 ATS in their last six games overall against San Francisco.

New York is 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games after and ATS loss but are only 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games against NFC teams and 1-4 ATS in their last five games after a bye week. The Giants are also 3-11 ATS in their last 14 Week 10 games. On the other hand, the 49ers are only 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games after an ATS win, 1-5 ATS in their last six games against the NFC and 5-14 ATS in their last 19 home games.

Betting Prediction

Dating back to 2013, the Niners are 1-14 ATS when closing as the betting favorite. That might turn you off on San Francisco in this game. But when you take a look at San Francisco’s record on Monday Night Football, you’d be impressed because they have the best Monday Night Football record since 1970 at 46-16-1 ATS in 63 total games. That’s impressive. I won’t blame you though if you go with the Giants because no doubt, they are the more talented team in this matchup. With both teams having nothing to play for except going through the motions, talent usually prevails. If you ask me though, I don’t like to place my money on Eli Manning. I’m going with history here and taking the 49ers record.

Prediction: 49ers -3.5

The under is 11-4 in the Giants’ last 15 games played and the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games on the road. On the other hand, the over is 8-4 in the 49ers last 12 games played and the over is also 4-2 in the 49ers last 6 home games.

Betting Prediction

Nick Mullens’ performance against the Raiders makes us want to pick the over in this game. Mullens threw three scores to lead the 49ers to a 34-3 win over the Raiders on Halloween. But I don’t think he’s going to have a Mahomes run. The 49ers aren’t going to come crashing back to earth but in most probability, they won’t be scoring in their 30’s in this game. The Raiders were simply going through the motions last week. However these Giants are still playing defense as they’ve allowed just 21.5 points per game in their last two losses.

Prediction: Under 43.5
