The New England Patriots travel to the Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday for a showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The last time these two teams met was at Super Bowl 52 where the Eagles pulled off the upset via the “Philly Special”. The Patriots look to get back on track after the Baltimore Ravens snapped their 8-game winning run two weeks ago. The Eagles are also coming from a bye week and are aiming for momentum after picking up a win over the Chicago Bears before their break.
The New England Patriots had a dominant defense that gave them an 8-0 start to the 2019 season. But that defense was nowhere in sight when the Patriots were stunned by the Baltimore Ravens two weeks ago. Baltimore not only scored 37 points on the New England defense, but they also rushed for 210 yards as well.
Tom Brady completed 30 out of 46 passes against the Ravens and he posted a total of 285 yards with one touchdown and one interception. James White rushed for 38 yards on 9 carries with one score while Mohamed Sanu caught a Brady pass for his first touchdown as a member of the Patriots. However, New England was outgained 372-342 and took a loss heading to their bye week.
New England ranks 7th in the league in passing at 273.9 passing yards per game on the season. However, they only rank 23rd on the ground with an average of 92.9 rushing yards per contest. The Patriots are the 2nd leading scoring team in the league at 29.8 points per game and have the best scoring defense at 10.9 points allowed per outing.
The Philadelphia Eagles have won back to back games and at 5-4, they are now tied with the Dallas Cowboys for first place in the NFC East. Philadelphia is also coming from their bye week and they defeated the Chicago Bears 22-14 two weeks ago. The Eagles head home as the NFL betting underdogs against the Patriots.
Jordan Howard rushed for 82 yards on 19 carries with one rushing touchdown against the Bears. Carson Wentz passed for 239 yards with one touchdown while Zach Ertz had 113 receiving yards and one touchdown catch. The Eagles held the Bears to only 164 yards including only 62 on the ground.
The Bears rank 30th in the league in passing at 181.7 yards per game and they are only 28th in rushing at 80.6 yards per contest. Chicago is scoring an average of 18.0 points per game this season, 27th overall in the NFL. They are allowing their opponents to score 17.4 points per game this season.
New England is 13-1 SU in their last 14 games played. The Patriots are 5-1 SU in their last five games played on the road and 6-0 SU in their last six games against the NFC Conference. Philadelphia is 4-2 SU in their last six games played. The Eagles are 6-1 SU in their last seven games played at home. Head to head, the Patriots are 4-3 SU in their last seven meetings against the Eagles. However, Philadelphia has won five out of their last seven home games against New England.
The Patriots had a bye week after their eight-game unbeaten start was halted by the Ravens. Baltimore torched them for 37 points and the Ravens rushed for 210 yards. Bill Belichick had two weeks to prepare for their Super Bowl 52 revenge and I expect the Patriots to be ready. Despite the loss, New England has been dominant at 8-1 SU and ATS this season.
The Eagles are also coming off a bye week and a win over the Chicago Bears before taking the previous week off. Philadelphia has seen its rushing game improve over the last couple of weeks but their aerial attack hasn’t picked up since DeSean Jackson went down with an injury. Zach Ertz is coming off his first big game of the season and the Eagles are looking for momentum.
The Eagles have won back to back games and are now tied with the Cowboys for the lead in the NFC East. New England is still licking the wounds of their first loss of the year. The Patriots haven’t forgotten about the “Philly Special” and are out for revenge here. I expect a close game with the Patriots pulling away with a late score.
Prediction: New England Patriots
The Patriots are 4-1 ATS in their last five games played. New England is 3-2 ATS in five home games played this season and 6-0 ATS in their last six games played against the NFC Conference. The Eagles are 4-2 ATS in their last six games played and are 2-2 ATS in four home games played this season. Philadelphia is also 5-0 ATS in their last five games against the AFC East Division and 1-4 ATS in their last five Week 11 games. Head to head, the Eagles are 5-2 ATS in their last seven meetings against the Patriots.

Odds from SportsBetting as of 11/14/19
New England has outscored Philadelphia by an average of 2.14 points per game in their last 10 meetings and by one point per game in their previous three meetings. Four out of their last five meetings have been decided by eight points or fewer. New England hasn’t lost too many back to back games and they are 15-6 ATS in their last 21 games after an ATS loss. The Patriots are also 4-1 ATS in the last five seasons after a bye week. I like the Eagles to keep this close but the Patriots are going to score a late touchdown to cover the spread.
Prediction: Patriots -3
The total has gone under in 14 out of the last 20 games played by the Patriots. New England has seen the total go under in four out of five road games played this season. The total has gone over in five out of the nine games played by the Eagles this year. The under is 5-1 in Philadelphia’s last six games played in November. Head to head, the total has gone over in five out of the last seven games played between these two teams.

Odds from SportsBetting as of 11/14/19
These teams have combined to score an average of 53.28 points per game in their last 10 head to head games and 65.0 points per game in their most recent three meetings. The Patriots and Eagles have combined to score at least 58 points in each of their last four games played. Take out the Baltimore game and the Patriots have not allowed more than 14 points in a game this season. But then again, we saw how they could break down. However, Philadelphia isn’t Baltimore and I think the bye week will get the Eagles ready for their Super Bowl 52 revenge. Defense wins this game again for New England.
