The Washington Redskins take on the Philadelphia Eagles in a crucial NFC East showdown at Lincoln Financial Field on Monday 12/3/18.
The Eagles will try to gain ground on the Redskins who have a share of the division lead with the Dallas Cowboys. Washington has lost two in a row and three of four while the Cowboys have lost three of four at home.
Injury Riddled Redskins
The Washington Redskins were off to a fine start to the 2018 NFL season but have struggled in the past month due to injuries to key players on their defense and offense. Most recently, the Redskins lost starting quarterback for the rest of the season, leaving them with backup Colt McCoy to carry them the rest of the way. Despite their struggles, Washington is still tied with the Dallas Cowboys on top of the NFC East Standings.
For the season, McCoy has thrown for a total of 322 yards with 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions on the season while completing 60% of his passes. Adrian Peterson leads Washington’s rushing offense with 758 rushing yards on the season with 6 touchdowns scored.

Not Looking Like Super Bowl Champions
Despite struggling all season long, the defending Super Bowl champions Philadelphia Eagles are still 5-6 and still with a good shot at making the playoffs. To ensure that though, they must win their division and that means overtaking both the Redskins and the Cowboys. Step one will be on Monday against Washington and with the Eagles still slated to face the Cowboys one more time this season, their fate is still in their hands. But they need to start putting together victories.
Carson Wentz is completing 69.7% of his passes and has thrown for a total of 2,540 passing yards with 16 touchdowns and 6 interceptions this season. Philly’s ground game averages only 1000.8 rushing yards per game and it is led by Josh Adams who has rushed for 291 yards with two touchdowns on the season.
Who Wins?
The Redskins are 1-3 SU in their last four games played and are 3-6 SU in their last 9 games on the road. The Eagles are 17-8 SU in their last 25 games played and are 14-4 SU in their last 18 games at home. Head to head, the Redskins are 5-2 SU in their last 7 games against the Eagles.
The Eagles though have not won back to back games this season so that’s something to consider here.
I’m not sure what to make of a team with Colt McCoy as starter while playing on the road in what is perhaps a “must win” game for both. But the Redskins are scrappy and they find wins to score. However, despite their inconsistent scoring and inability to run the ball, the Eagles with Carson Wentz should find a way to squeak out win in the is one, perhaps by a difference of a field goal.
We’re picking the Philadelphia Eagles to beat the Washington Redskins on 12/3/18.
Other Bets To Make
Washington is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games played and are 3-2 ATS in five road games played this season. Philadelphia is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games played and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games played at home. Head to head, the Redskins are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games played against the Eagles and are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 road games against Washington.
Washington Redskins vs Philadelphia Eagles 12/3/18
Spread Odds: Redskins +6 (-105), Eagles -6 (-115)
Odds from betonline.ag as of 12/1/18
The Redskins have been a good play against the spread, going 5-2 ATS in their last seven games played. The Eagles have been the opposite, going just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall. Philadelphia’s struggles against the spread doesn’t end there as they are only 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games as betting favorites. I’m picking the Eagles to win SU but I’m not laying this many points on them. Washington has Philly’s numbers ATS but without Alex Smith, I’m not 100% sold out on them. If you point a gun on my head though and force me to pick, I’ll take the plus points and the Redskins.
Prediction: Redskins +6
The total has gone under in 10 out of the last 15 games played by the Redskins and the under is 5-2 in the Redskins’ last seven games on the road. The total has gone under in four out of the last 5 games of the Eagles and the under is 5-1 in their last six home games. Head to head, the total has gone over in four out of the last five meetings between these two teams and the over is also 5-1 in their last six games played in Washington.
Washington Redskins vs Philadelphia Eagles 12/3/18
Over/Under Odds: Over 45.5 -110, Under 45.5 -110
Odds from betonline.ag as of 12/1/18
These teams have a combined 9-13 Over/Under record but the last four Monday Night games have gone over and the over is 4-1 in their last five meetings with an average combined score of 52.6. Neither team has a good pass defense with the Redskins ranked 23rd and the Eagles at 28 in that statistical department. The Redskins have hit the over in their previous two games and the Eagles in their last three so that make for a good argument here.
Prediction: Over 45.5
