The Washington Wizards head to the Amway Center to play the Orlando Magic on Friday night.
Washington is on a roll right now with three consecutive victories, including a 127-102 demolition of the Phoenix Sun in their last outing. The Wizards are 15-21 SU on the season and they are in third place in the Southeast Division, 3.5 games behind the leaders Miami Heat.
Orlando has lost three out of their last five after winning five in a row. The Magic are 13-23 SU on the season and are just 2 games behind the Wizards in the division standings. Orlando was involved in a bench-clearing brawl in their last game against the Detroit Pistons and will be missing five key players on Friday night.
The Wizards head to Orlando with plenty going for them. The team has won three straight games and is also coming off their biggest win of the season, a 127-102 massacre of the Phoenix Suns.
Phoenix made 41.9% of their 31 three-pointers while Washington made only 30% of their 26 attempts from deep. But that did not matter as the Wizards outrebounded the Suns 46-30 and made 14 more free throws than them. They also shot a scorching 57.3% from the field and won easily as +2 point underdogs.
Rui Hachimura led the Wizards with 30 points and five rebounds while Kristaps Porzingis added 22 points and 6 rebounds. Meanwhile, Kyle Kuzma had 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists. Bradley Beal is questionable to play here with a hamstring issue.
Washington is scoring an average of 111.8 points per game this season while grabbing 43.3 rebounds and issuing 24.6 assists per contest this year.
Kristaps Porzingis leads the team in scoring and rebounding at 21.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per game while Monte Morris is the top assists man at 5.2 per game.
After getting engaged in a bench-clearing ball against the Detroit Pistons, the Orlando Magic will be entering Friday’s game short-handed. Moritz Wagner, Cole Anthony, Gary Harris Jr., Wendell Carter Jr., and Mo Bamba are all ineligible to play due to suspension for their involvement in the brawl.
In that game, the Pistons won 121-101 and made 18 three-pointers on 42.9% shooting. Meanwhile, Orlando made only 5 three-pointers and that was the ballgame. Orlando also took 5 more shots in the game but made only 41.5% of their FG attempts in the loss.
Franz Wagner led the Magic with 19 points and 6 rebounds while Wendell Carter Jr. added 16 points and 8 boards for Orlando. Rookie of the Year favorite Paolo Banchero also chipped in 15 points and five rebounds.
The Magic are scoring 110.0 points per game this season and are grabbing 43.4 rebounds per contest. Orlando is averaging 22.0 assists per game this year.
Top rookie pick Paolo Banchero leads the team in scoring and passing with 20.9 points and 3.9 assists per game while Bol Bol is the team leader in rebounding at 7.1 boards per contest.
The Wizards are 3-0 SU in their last three games played against the Magic.
Washington Wizards SU trends:
Orlando Magic SU trends:
The Wizards head to this game on a three-game winning run. They have won four out of their last five games played and are 2-1 SU in their last three road games. Washington has played well during their current winning streak, scoring over 120 points per game while shooting 52% from the floor during that stretch.
Washington hasn’t been one of the top defensive teams in the league this season but they have held their opponents to under 110 points per game in their last three games played. The Wizards are also averaging more than 7 steals per game in their last three outings. With this defense against a short-handed Orlando team, you have to like the Wizards’ chances here.
Meanwhile, the Magic have struggled on defense all season long and they have conceded more than 120 points per game in their last three assignments. Orlando however plays well at home, scoring 113 points per game this season. However, with five players unable to suit up on Friday, they will be facing a heavy disadvantage.
The Wizards could be without Bradley Beal here but with Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma having fantastic seasons, Washington should be fine here. The Magic will also be without Bamba, Carter, and Mo Wagner which means that their frontline is going to be thin against a Wizards team with Porzingis and Hachimura playing well as of late.
I expect the Magic to give a good fight as always. However, the difference in manpower is too overwhelming here. Washington is also playing well right now and is on a high after beating the Suns in their last game. Give me the Wizards to take a road win in Orlando.
Prediction: Washington Wizards -270

The Magic are very short-handed here and will be missing five players who have a total average of 125.3 minutes per game this season. That means we will likely see Orlando empty the entire bench in this game. On a rebuilding squad like Orlando’s those players aren’t as good as the reserve on the top teams.
The Wizards have not been that good this season but considering the handicap that Orlando is facing, it would be wise to go with Washington. The Wizards are also 5-1 ATS in their last six games and have been more efficient on offense and defense than the Magic.
If the Magic were complete, I would think twice about this pick. But with the noted absences on Friday, I have to go with Washington.
Prediction: Wizards -6.5
The total has gone over in 8 out of the last 11 games played between these two teams. The under is 8-3 in their last 11 meetings in Orlando.

Again, we go back to the argument stated above. The Magic are going to miss 5 players, including starters on Friday night. With the team emptying the entire roster to play this game, I don’t expect a high-scoring affair. Not that Orlando is a prolific scoring team either.
Both teams also play at a slow pace. The Wizards rank 19th while Orlando is even slower at 22nd. The total has also gone under in 8 out of their last 11 meetings in Orlando. The Wizards have also seen the total hit under in five out of their last six road games played.
