Pelican Pete holds all of the gold coins, and it’s up to you to try and coax them out of his huge beak. That’s basically the gist behind this online slot game from Aristocrat. Yet, while the theme of it may seem a little simple against many other slots, don’t cast it aside just yet. You see, the game also features some intriguing inbuilt features that will surely appeal to you, too.
One thing that the developer could have done, is include a soundtrack that fits with the theme though. Instead, you get to listen to the noises of what a land-based casino sounds like – other machines bleeping and buzzing, people chatting and more in the background. Pelican Pete deserves a decidedly more oceanic soundtrack, judging by the scenario it’s set in. Aristocrat has used some decent graphics in the creation of this slot game though, so you’ll get a good enough visual experience while playing it. So, if you want to know what else this game contains, let’s take a closer look at it. Here’s some information about Pelican Pete for you.
You Got Me Pelican Fly-Fly-Flying
The setup of this Aristocrat slot contains five reels and four rows in total, which means that it is slightly larger than the average video slot design. This isn’t any issue though, as you’re simply presented with a larger area on which to create winning combinations. At the same time, Pelican Pete offers up a total of 50 different pay lines. You can change these around though, if you want to wager on fewer than 50. Simply use the relevant plus and minus buttons at the bottom-left corner of the game screen. If you also want to adjust the bet that you place on these lines, you can use the second set of + and – buttons. With these, you’re able to choose a bet per line of between 1 cent and $2. This means that with all 50 pay lines active, the maximum overall wager in this game stands at $100 per spin. You can also make use of an ‘Auto’ function to set the reels off spinning several consecutive times at the same wager level.
If you look at the graphics in Pelican Pete, you’ll see that they are quite crisp and decently designed. They don’t match up to those provided by some other developers, of course. However, they work well enough for this slot. The background depicts the sun setting over the ocean, while the game’s symbols appear upon its reels. These begin with the often-seen lower-paying icons of the playing card additions. There’s the green 9, the red 10, the blue J, the yellow Q, the orange K and the pink A. Next up is a symbol of a starfish and another of an anchor. You’ll also see an icon of a treasure chest, which is followed by one of a purple fish. The highest paying standard symbol of this slot though, is the sunset image. If you bring five of this symbol into view on a winning pay line, you’ll receive a reward of 100 times your in-play stake.
Coaxing the Coins from Pete’s Mouth
So, Pete is the pelican that holds all of the gold coins, and you need to try and get them from his beak. What better way could Aristocrat help you to do this, than by providing you with some special features? First of all, you’ll get the opportunity to see a wild symbol come into play. This is actually represented by the pelican himself. As a wild, he will substitute for all other icons on the reels, helping you to form winning combinations in the process. The only one that it won’t substitute for, is the scatter addition. Wild symbols can only show up on reels two, three, four and five.
The scatter symbol that the slot holds is of the lighthouse. This one only appears on reels one, two and three. However, if you do spin them into view, they’ll pay out from any position on these reels, meaning that they don’t need to be on a winning pay line. Three of them showing up will double the stake that you place. At the same time as doubling your wager, three scatter symbols will also activate 10 freespins for you. During this feature round, if you spin a wild into view, it will lock into position for the remainder of the freespins that you have. While there, it will continue substituting for all the other icons, except scatters, and give you greater opportunities to form wins. If a scatter appears below one of these sticky wilds, then it may also contribute towards a scatter prize for the freespins round. The feature can be re-triggered once only, with an extra five freespins provided on top of your freespins balance.
Pelican Pete – Conclusion
We have to admit that we weren’t really sure what to expect from a game known as Pelican Pete. And while Aristocrat does keep the game and its features fairly simple, we were quite entertained while spinning its reels. The freespins feature is a nice addition to the game, while it’s always pleasing to see wild symbols make an appearance. Graphics-wise, it’s fairly okay, although it could do with a bit of fine tuning in this area. The biggest let-down is actually the soundtrack, but if you want to get around this, you can simply mute the game. Overall, it makes for a nice enough addition to the Aristocrat selection of games.
